I’ve taught A-Level Psychology for eight years and particularly enjoy the research methods side of the course. A lot of my students initially find studies and statistics intimidating, so we take them apart carefully and look at what the researchers actually did. I also spend plenty of time on evaluation because knowing a study is only half the job. Biopsychology and memory are probably my favourite topics to teach.

Hi! I’ve been tutoring A-Level Psychology for around four years. My lessons are quite conversational because I find students remember theories much better when we actually discuss them rather than just read through notes. I’m especially interested in social influence and attachment. When exams get closer, we switch gears and spend more time planning essays, practising shorter questions and working out exactly where marks are being missed.

My academic background is in cognitive psychology, followed by several years working in research. I now tutor A-Level Psychology with a particular focus on memory, approaches and biopsychology. I encourage students to be precise when discussing research rather than memorising a list of strengths and weaknesses. For essay questions, we work on linking evidence directly to the argument and developing evaluation that genuinely answers the question.

Psychology is full of studies with names and dates, but I don’t think memorising them in isolation is particularly useful. I’ve tutored A-Level students for five years and prefer to start with what a study was trying to discover, then build the details around that. Research methods is an area I work on regularly, especially experimental design and interpreting data. I’m also a big fan of psychopathology because it usually leads to interesting discussions.

Before becoming a tutor, I worked on research projects involving learning and child development. That experience still shapes the way I teach A-Level Psychology. I like students to question how evidence was collected and whether a conclusion is actually justified. Development, attachment and memory are subjects I particularly enjoy. Lessons also include regular timed questions, with detailed feedback on AO1, application and evaluation.

I’ve worked with A-Level Psychology students for over ten years, including plenty who arrive knowing the content well but struggle with longer answers. My approach is fairly structured. We identify what the question requires, choose the most useful research and then decide where evaluation belongs. I have a particular interest in biological explanations of behaviour, and I enjoy making topics such as neurons, hormones and brain function easier to follow.
